Do you remember this cartoon strip? Charlie Brown and Linus and Lucy are laying down on the pitchers mound looking up at the big sky. Lucy asks the boys if they can see shapes in the drifting clouds. I have a hero, Dan Eldon. He inspired not only how I think about life, but how I have lived my life. Dan was a photojournalist, artist, and adventurer. He spent most of his short twenty-two years of life in Africa, or in raising money to get back to Africa. Dan took pictures and sold them, most famously to Time Magazine for its cover, and created a series of collage journals and diaries. But his true ‘artwork’ was his life. Dan liked to say that “safari is a way of life” and ‘the journey is the destination”. read more
